Why don’t I see a new tool after an update?

Many AI clients cache the tool list for a connection or chat. Fix:
  1. Restart the AI tool (e.g. Claude Desktop / Cursor / Antigravity)
  2. Start a new chat
Also check the granted permissions. Write tools remain visible when the connection only has mcp:read, but invoking one asks compatible clients to step up to mcp:write. If that prompt does not appear, reconnect the client and try the action again.

Is Capsulate MCP still read-only?

No. It now includes selected deterministic write workflows such as:
  • canvas-and-pattern creation
  • pattern-definition updates
  • widget-spec updates
  • record edits and grouping with preview/apply/undo
  • memory updates and alert management
External contribution and optional internal research tools are added in PR #1616; check deployment and your connected server’s tool list for availability.

Can my assistant research and save a new column?

When contribution tools are available, yes. The assistant previews and applies a user-managed column, reads each record’s finding_context, researches with its own tools, then previews and publishes findings with sources. Capsulate does not run research for this path. User-managed fields are protected from email extraction. Findings are saved one record/field at a time.

Does connecting MCP give my assistant automatic follow-ups?

The host must provide scheduling and notifications. MCP exposes callable tools and durable progress; the connection itself does not wake the assistant. Optional Capsulate internal research can run through its normal worker and assignment policies, but host follow-ups still need a host scheduler.

Does MCP cover everything in the app?

It covers structured records and selected authoring workflows. Radar dismiss/resolve, sharing, native exports, integration controls, mailbox actions, and account administration stay in the app. See MCP Overview for the boundaries.

What URL should I use?

Use https://capsulate.app/mcp.

How do canvas, pattern, and entity relate?

  • Canvas: the user-facing workspace
  • Pattern: the extraction definition behind a canvas
  • Entity: one extracted structured record produced by a pattern
For example, a package-tracking canvas has one entity row per package. Shipping, in-transit, and delivery emails are supporting updates to that package, not separate package rows. Typical flow:
  1. Find a canvas or pattern
  2. Inspect logical records and, when needed, their record-scoped source evidence
  3. Refine the pattern or canvas if needed

Can my AI search my mailbox?

No. General mailbox search and direct message/thread fetch are intentionally excluded from MCP. Use record_sources when you need limited email metadata supporting one known logical record.

How do I know which group_field to use?

Use records_schema first. It shows which logical-record fields exist and their coverage. Choose fields with high coverage.

How do I disconnect an AI client?

Open Settings → Connect AI in Capsulate and disconnect the client under Connected AI clients. This revokes every active token for that client. You can also remove the connector from ChatGPT, Claude, or the other AI client.

Why did an older hosted MCP connection stop working?

Reconnect it so the client can repeat OAuth and refresh its cached tool list. Modern MCP connections do not depend on a long-lived protocol session; initialization-based clients continue through Capsulate’s compatibility path.
